This village kept incredible records on every citizen. They tracked hospital records or whatever they had back then, birthdays, etc. This took place between 1870 and 1920. Now, they didn’t have access to other towns and cities, they were dependent on themselves. What they found was the death rates went down, the hospital visits went down and the life expectancy and longevity went up during times of famine. This happened when there wasn’t enough food. Ergo, there wasn’t enough food to overindulge and they ate what necessary. What they found was even though their dietary habits changed near the end of their life, their grandchildren lived many years longer as well. What is passed on to future generations is not the genes but the epigenetics. Epigenetics is the environment around the cell that turns genes on and off.
